Team Selection Policy

Year groups 5 and 6

The club coaches take the opportunity to speak to the players regarding team selection at some point near the commencement of the new season. It is explained that the club tries to make team selection less stressful for both players and their parents.

The system the club uses is one of continuous merit based assessment. Players are watched closely during training, and the club coaching team collectively decides what is considered to be a fair and appropriate team selection.

The club aims to inform the players what the team selections will be by mid-November of each new season. There is scope for moving players between teams, especially if anyone improves significantly running up to the start of the Bedfordshire Junior League in February.

Year groups 7 and 8

An external selector will be invited to observe 2 training sessions. These will be on 8th & 15th November. The selector will watch the girls demonstrate some ball skills and movement skills, followed by match play. Team coaches will also have some input into the final team selections, but we will be guided by the external selector.  The club coaches will meet after training on 15th November, and the final team selections will be decided. Individual letters will be posted out during that week, so that everyone will know where they have been placed before training on 22 Nov.

If a player is upset about where she/he is placed, we do try to encourage them to view it as a temporary arrangement that could be changed, rather than it being the end of the world, and we encourage them to prove to us that we have got it wrong! Equally, if a player is in the first team, but then becomes complacent and stops working hard to improve their game, then they may find themselves being moved to the second team, however good their netball skills may have been in the past.

We are looking for commitment and the right attitude.

We hope that this explains things clearly; if not, please use the Contact Us form. We are happy to address any concerns.
