When you get a spare moment, with friends, either at formal training sessions, during match intervals or simply in your back garden, try out one or two excercises. We have a huge library of different routines, so we'll keep changing them from time to time, and hopefully you'll keep visiting this page to refresh your skills and learn new excercises:
Multiple choice passing: Who do I pass to? |
Click image to play this excercise | Description: White player marked 'X' passes to player 1, who pivots to face the Blue defender, with two White 'friendly' players behind. White players marked 2 and 3, split up, dodging sideways to make themselves available for the pass. White player 1, you decide! Aim: Passers learn to judge which player is most likely to succeed in receiving the pass. The defender can only go one way, and will most likely wait to see where YOU decide to pass the ball. You have the advantage; pretend to pass to the home player who is least likely to collect the ball, then quickly pass off the ball to the other player. The 'dummy pass' is a brilliant skill to learn!
Shooting for Goal & Catching The Rebound |
Click image to play this excercise | Description: A White player 1 throws to a Red player 1, then follows in to mark and catch the rebound from the Red players shot. The White player returns ball to next player in her line and joins the back of the Red players line. The Red player in turn joins the back of the White players line. Aim: Players learn to take the ball on the move, then immediately reposition themselves to catch the rebound.
Speed Pass |

One or more balls can be in play. Aim: Teaches correct catching technique, under pressure, to develop hand-eye coordination and so reduce dropped balls. Variations: Add a second hub, or add more catchers and passers.

Aim: The team in the area with the ball has to pass the ball 5 times. Every time they do 5 passes, or when the defence makes an interception, another defender from outside the area is allowed in to try and intercept the ball. Once all four have acted as the defence, the teams change over and try to beat the first teams score. Variations: Add more players and add rules so that you limit where the pass is to go Only when an interception or tip is made can another defender come in Compete against teams using a stopwatch - who can complete the task the quickest
