Well done to Meteors and Comets. It's been a tough season but good to see both teams reaching a creditable 3rd place in their respective divisions.

2009/10 Season Match Reports

Comets v Maulden Falcons 2.12.09
Another really good game from Falcons, our games against them are always fairly tight.
It was close all the way through to the half with Falcons leading by 12-11. But some great defense from Alice and some good shooting by Comets saw them through to a win of just one goal. Final score 24-23 to Comets.

 Meteors v Maulden Robins 25/11/09

Meteors are a bit of an enigma: In the Youth League, they we unable to beat Chiltern Magenta, who in turn were unable to beat Maulden Robins, who in turn were unable to beat our Meteors!

To be fair on Robins, it was the 2nd time they played each-other; Robins won convincingly first time around. The point is you just cannot predict the outcome when Meteors are involved, which is why watching them play is so fascinating. Keep it up girls, you're doing fine!

 Comets v Maulden Kestrels 18.11.09

Comets and Maulden Kestrels had a very good game against each other again, with Kestrels outscoring Comets by 5 goals to 4 in the first quarter.

After that, though, Comets upped their game and after some excellent play over the next three quarters and excellent shooting from Hannah we had a 24-12 win.

 2 Comets Match Reports

 from 11th Nov. 2009

 1  v Shefford Storm

A tough match for Comets this week as Storm are a very strong side. Things started well with Comets taking a 7-4 lead after the first quarter. The next two quarters were equal with Comets and Shefford both scoring 4 goals in each quarter. The last quarter was a bit of a disaster as Comets could only score 4 goals, whereas Storm scored 8. The final score was 19-20 to Storm

 2  v Amazon Dragons

Another tough match for Comets with illness and injury hitting the team. With only 7 players there were no fresh legs for the second half of the game. Things did go our way though with the girls managing to outscore Dragons in almost every quarter. This was by no means an easy game though, Dragons were playing well and their shooters were very good. Comets managed to keep going, winning with a final score of 34-25

Comets v Sharnbrook Avengers
A good game for Comets this week managing to maintain a lead in every quarter. Unfortunately we were without Morgan who was ill and Helen who has broken her arm and won't play again for quite a few weeks. This meant that some of the girls had to play out of position (Ruth doing a quarter as GK) but they didn't let this phase them. There was some great shooting from Sara and Hannah and great defending from Alice, Sophie and Charlotte. The final score was 34-25. Well done Comets.

 Comets Match Report - 5th Oct. 2009

This weeks game was played against Maulden Falcons.

Maulden were playing very well and were leading in the first two quarters. They marked our girls really well and their shooters were getting almost every goal. In the second half though we started to get it together with some tight marking from Alice and Sophie in defense and we had the game tied by the end of the third quarter. The final quarter saw us really upping our game and with some great interceptions from Sara saw us outscoring them. The game finished with a 25-20 win but all credit to Falcons for playing well and making it a difficult game for us.

Match Report for 16th September

Kestrels are a very good year 9 team who won the first division in the junior league last year. They came out of the starting blocks very quickly and matched us goal for goal in the first quarter. By the end of the second quarter they were ahead leading 14-13. They were playing some very good netball and their shooters were on target but in the third quarter we started to get it together and it was our turn to lead by one goal. The fourth quarter saw us really getting into our stride and we came out 29-20 winners.

Youth League Report for Comets Wednesday 23rd September

The match this week was played against Wilstead Sapphires. There was some great interceptions from Paige and defending from Sophie but there was great play from all of the girls this week. We managed to outscore Wilstead in every quarter and the final score was 29-19 to Comets.

2008/9 Season Match Reports

Short and sweet..
Westoning Comets played extremely well against 'Chiltern Gemini' they were a tall and determined team who played fabulously, but thank the Lord- Comets pulled it out of the bag (without a dodgy quarter.) and won by an excellent 22-9 !

Match Report for 26th April
This week Westoning Comets were playing Grangers Lightening and we were feeling confident as they had only won 4 games in this league so far. However, we were without our centre Sara who was ill. After a bit of a slow start we soon got into our stride. Then Sophie hurt her back in the first quarter and had to miss the rest of the game. Morgan stood in as GK for a couple of quarters and did a great job as did the rest of the defense making great interceptions mid court. Our mid court players did a wonderful job of getting the every loose ball and getting the play back into our shooting circle.

By the third quarter our lead was beginning to widen. In the final quarter we completely outplayed them and we won 36 - 14.

Westoning Comets VS Dame Alice Diamonds
Score: 24-7
25th February 2009
Comets were out to dominate every quarter, as their last encounter was only won by 4 goals. We knew that this game was going to be close as Diamonds thought that they had a chance to beat us. From the first whistle, it was obvious that the Comets were on top form, taking an early lead, from which the Diamonds never recovered. Ruth and Hannah were on top form, scoring goals from around the “D”. Ella, Sara, Morgan, Sophie and Helen playing centre and wings, using the court well, with many interceptions, making it hard for Diamonds to get the ball. Our defence: Alice, Charlotte and Sophie played really well and kept Diamonds’ scoring chances to a minimum, only allowing them to score 7 goals. We were really up for it- Well done girls!

Westoning Comets v Dame Alice Diamonds

30 Nov 08

On a FREEZING cold Sunday morning Westoning Comets took on Dame Alice Diamonds in a rearranged Youth League game. To say we were up against it is an understatement - Charlotte had twisted her ankle the previous Monday, Alice had twisted her ankle the previous Wednesday, Hannah had a suspected broken nose after being hit in the face with a lacrosse stick the day before, and Sara was ill in bed!!!

We got off to a reasonable start, and Morgan and Ruth played really well in the attacking circle. Helen hassled her WA, and picked up every loose ball. At half time we were 3 goals up. In the 3rd quarter though, we had a bad spell, and let Diamonds score 7 goals without reply. At three quarter time I told the girls they had to want to win - Dame Alice wanted it more than them at the moment, and we were making things easy for them. Charlotte went off as her ankle was sore, Morgan switched to GK, and Hannh came on at GA for the last quarter.  Sophie had a really good last quarter, and put her GA under much more pressure. With a cool head Ruth put up the goals, and we won out 16 - 12 winners.

A really tough game for us, but one that we came through and fought hard to win. A great team effort from all the girls - well done!

Comets in action again!

From: Hannah Conquest
Message: Westoning Comets v Westoning Blaze
When: 19th November 2008

Final score 27-16

Comets started the game confindently and soon dominated the 1st quarter.
Alice, Charlotte & Sophie were strong in defence and intercepted a lot of Blaze's passes and shots.
Morgan and Ella stood in for Sarah in Centre and kept the ball moving well up the court to the attackers who used the 'D' well to receive the passes.
The pace of the game was fast and Blaze recovered in the 3rd quarter to put us under pressure. We kept our lead however, and finished winners at 27-16. Well done girls - Good team work and well done to Blaze for a great game.
