About Us

How was Westoning Junior Netball Club started?

Dot & Julie Bassett started the club in 1998 with a group of Yr 5 & 6 girls. In Julie's own words:-

"We just scrabbled together 7 girls (daughters of friends) & off we went into the Junior League. We had no ball, no bibs & no kit!!!  We borrowed posts from Westoning Lower School so that we could have some practices. The first season in the Junior League we won a set of skirts, one of the girls grandparents bought the team some t-shirts, and another set of grandparents bought some bibs. From there everything snowballed incredibly quickly to the point we are at today where we have 8 teams!! When we started off we really didn't think beyond the one team, but of course those girls had sisters who wanted to get in on the act & it just took off."

One club, too many teams!

As the club grew, and senior players enroled (or stayed on after year 11) it was decided to split the junior players from the senior, and thus the Junior & Senior Clubs were formed.

This website represents the Junior Club and all the parents, children and volunteers who together make up a fantastically dedicated netball community.

Our club colours

Our club colours are predominantly cornflower blue with midnight blue flashes on the vests and fleeces, and vertical stripes on the skirts.

Year 5 inductees are initially given a navy blue skirt and t-shirt combination, which gets replaced with the club colours after their new kit arrives, in time for their year 6 season.
